Whilst the projected super-fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao has been off and on and somewhere in between, Pacquiao’s coach Freddie Roach had been orchestrating the downfall of pound-for-pound great “Money May.”
In an interview with Boxing Talk, the renowned coach hinted at certain adverse behaviors that the five-division world champion has become accustomed to—flaws which they can turn to account.
He also pointed out the fact that Mayweather has had problems with pacy southpaws in the past.
“I think we can take advantage of those habits. He does have some bad habits that can be exposed,” Roach said.
Mayweather (42-0) is well known for his ministry-of-defense style which also incorporates the philly shell shoulder roll defense.
He’s also a versatile boxer who possesses good speed as well as being quite adept in the art of counterpunching.
That notwithstanding, Roach believes he has the game plan to bring Money’s O to an end.
Roach’s Blue Print to Defeating Mayweather
“We were working on this game plan before, because we thought the fight was going to happen a lot sooner than it has,” Roach said.
“I will bring in a whole new crew of sparring partners, guys that can imitate Floyd well. There isn't a lot of guys in the world that are like Floyd, so it would be tough to find them,” Roach said.“We would prepare for his counter punching ability, and his speed, which is maybe equal to Manny's, if not better.” Roach added.
To execute his plan, however, the proposed super-fight has to materialize, and even though negotiations between both parties are supposedly ongoing, there’s nothing in the offing to suggest that Mayweather and Pacquiao (54-3-2) will throw leather anytime soon.
While we watch and wait for the fight of the century to transpire, Roach had these parting words for Money May.
“I like challenges, and this would be the biggest challenge I've faced as a trainer. I will come up with a game plan to beat this guy. I hope the fight happens soon,” he said.
